Digital tachograph
The implantation of digital tachographs for vehicles of new matriculation, to which the use of this control device is compulsory according the Regulation (CEE) 3820/85, began the 5 of August of 2005.
In general, all vehicles that have a MMA superior to 3,5 tons or in the case of vehicles for travellers, these have more than 9 seats including the driver, are forced to install a digital tachograph, with some exceptions.
The new digital tachograph replaces discs of the analogical tachograph with smart cards based on chip, with the size of a credit card. The chip includes a program that protects the data stored in it and that allows the card to communicate with the digital tachograph in a safe way.
